The University of Windsor Faculty of Law announces a multi-year, major Indigenous child‑welfare initiative funded by the Law Foundation of Ontario, aimed at strengthening culturally grounded legal representation for Indigenous children and families across Ontario. Partners of the project include the University of Saskatchewan College of Law and Legal Aid Ontario’s Indigenous Services. The project is built on the principles of Bill C-92, which affirms Indigenous communities’ inherent right to control their own child and family services. The project will provide culturally informed legal education for lawyers and law students, develop collaborative service models to improve legal outcomes for Indigenous families, increase both the number and competence of lawyers working in Indigenous child protection, and strengthen relationships between First Nations, law schools, and legal institutions.
