year, $425,000 initiative to address the disproportionate involvement of Indigenous families in child‑
protection cases by educating lawyers and law students on Bill C‑
92 and strengthening culturally grounded legal practices; the project focuses on building relationships with First Nations and Indigenous communities, developing community‑
informed curricula, and increasing both the number and competency of lawyers handling child‑
welfare matters, with the goal of ensuring legal services reflect Indigenous laws, values, and lived experiences while tackling the reality that Indigenous people represent only 2.9% of Ontario’s population yet account for over 23% of legal aid child‑protection certificates.
