Legal Aid Ontario partners with Windsor Law to reduce the overrepresentation of Indigenous families in child protection


Legal Aid Ontario’s partnership with Windsor Law is a two‑
year, $425,000 initiative aimed at reducing the overrepresentation of Indigenous families in Ontario’s child‑
protection system by improving culturally grounded legal education and representation; the project trains lawyers and law students on Bill C‑
92, develops community‑
informed curricula, and strengthens relationships with local First Nations to ensure legal services reflect Indigenous laws, values, and lived experiences, addressing the reality that Indigenous people make up only 2.9% of Ontario’s population yet account for over 23% of legal aid child‑protection cases.
